Discouragement & Depression

I have not had a very good last few weeks. I have not wanted to do any training or be careful of what I am eating. I am trying to keep my weight below 160 lbs and I need it to be around 150 to 155 to feel my best.  Just not happening here lately.

I get real discouraged when I read other friends reports of their training on Facebook and wonder why can’t I be like that. So dedicated to their goals and training and making things happen.  Yes, I want to do a full Ironman race but do I really have the time and energy to put in the work? Can I be as disciplined as my friends KGR, Leslie, Kimmee or Rachel? Three belong to Team USA.

Am I putting so much pressure on myself that I am setting myself up for failure? All of these questions run through my head and send me into a deeper depression. I know that I feel so much better when I do train, but there are days it is all I can do to get out of bed in the mornings to start my work for the day.

I have yet been able to master the gift of time and money management which then sets me further down the dark whole.

This sport has blessed me with so much and I just can’t throw it all away.

I need a training partner. Someone that will get  me out and help me become a better rider, runner and swimmer. Someone that will challenge me to swim faster, to run harder and to bike longer.

I have had several that say to come riding with them, but they are usually riding when I am at work or I have something to do with Joshua.

I need a goal race for next year and a big goal race.  I have several small races that I have picked out, just have to wait for the money to sign up.

April  Try Tri Illinois  sprint

May St. Louis Tri  sprint or oly (I am wanting to move up in distance)

August Wood River  sprint   (maybe if nothing else comes along)

I have a lot to do between now and then. I have to get comfortable in aero on “Blessing”

Which Half Ironman is your favorite?

I ran a 10K today!

I am working towards finishing my degree in nursing at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. This week is homecoming and today they had a 5K/10K race. It was FREE for students, so I signed up.

Me with Cougar, sporting my Metro Tri Club shirt and #owenotter hat.  #owenotter helped his Aunt Jen make it through the race today and every race that she had done this year. To find out more about Owen please go the the Blog of Kelly Burns Gallagher Someradnomthursday

It was a small race and of course I checked to see how many were racing in my age group 45-49, a total of 4 women. I knew right then and there that I would not be making the podium, but that was OK as I was running for me and to get better. There was a little bit of me hoping that I could get in the top 2, as they only gave awards out for the top 2 in your age group, but I digress.

It was really windy today and you were either running into the wind or it was pushing you. For me I was mostly running into the wind, what wonderful luck I have right? Things started out great, I was doing a great pace and feeling OK. My lateral quads were not liking me and no matter how much I stretched or was stretched they still did not like to be bothered about running this morning. I just told them to do their job and keep moving. I run on a 5:1 interval, run 5 minutes and walk 1 minute. It seems to work well for me. It is a good thing that my Garmin 910 can keep time and has a run/walk setting. I was going great and keeping a good pace in the mid 12’s. Which is really great for me!!

At about the 2 mile mark or so, I met up with Bob. I met Bob at our local running store, Run Well when I started the “Recliner to 5K” program that the owner Jenifer Schaller put on. I was running further and faster, but Jen helped me so much in getting my stride and breathing under control that I did not finish the class. Bob came to the class as a helper and we would run together at times during the class.

Bob and I ran most of the race together and walked at the same time. Until about the 7K mark. His shins started to brother him and he told me not to wait on him. I kept going, the it was the UP HILL climb back to the finish.

This was at the end of the UP HILL at 8K. My first action shot. Just as good as getting one running with both feet in the air.

All smiles and just about done and heading to the finish line.

All in all, I had a great race. I finished in 1: 18:13.3. I am very proud of my race today.

This race came 2 weeks after my first half marathon which I finished in 3:09:00

Now it is time to start thinking about next year and the races that I want to do. I have a few in mind, but really need to step up my swimming and biking to get to where I need to be.  Also, need to start looking for a wet suit that I can use next season. Going to need it for the race in May and one in September that may be my first half iron distance race.

It’s been awhile

It has been 3 months since the last time I have posted. So many things have happened both good and bad.

I got the email today…. I was one of 54 other women picked to be part of the Tri Equal..

You have been selected for 3 months of free coaching, donated by a coach in support of TriEqual’s Equally Inspiring program.

This program is to help bring women into the sport of triathlons and to help encourage other women to join the sport. The #50womentokona started this campaign to have equality among the men and women professional triathlete for the world championships in Kona, HI.

As of right now there are only approx. 30 professional female triathletes that go to the championships each year, compared to 50 professional males. In order for a women to get to Kona, she has to race more races than the men to qualify for a spot.

Please visit   http://www.triequal.org for more information and how you can help in the fight for equality.

It has been awhile

It has been awhile since I updated everyone on my progress.

As of last week I am down a total of 83 LBS. I try  weigh myself every Thursday, which is tomorrow.

11015862_10206608725609577_7025146808327427411_o I finally got my hair colored after a year and I took my glasses off for the picture.

I got some exciting news today. TriEqual will be announcing the 50 women who will get to experience free coaching for three months on November 25, 2015.  I sent in an application and now I am keeping my fingers crossed. They had nearly 500 applications to read and pair down to only 50.

I ordered my new suit from Swim Outlet and it should be here in the next week. I ordered a size 20, hope it fits I am ready to get back into the pool.  Going to work very hard on my swimming in the next few months. Will be getting a membership at the Rec Center here in town for the next 6 months. Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to me!

My goal is to be able to swim 50 yards without stopping. I have always needed to stop and rest after each 25.

I am looking at my first race to be in April. The Try Tri Illinois at SIUE. I will be doing the super sprint: 150 yard swim, 10mile bike and 2 mile run.

I know from last year, I need to work on climbing hills and learning how to change gears on my bike. I will be using Mabel once again this year, as I am saving my money for an entry level TRI Bike.

It has been awhile

Sorry everyone!

Things have been so busy around here with summer ending and school starting back up.

I have been keeping quite on how much weight I have lost for a reason.

I have sponsored a challenge for the Alton Bottle C.A.P ride for a food bank in Alton.

https://www.racesonline.com/events/bottlecapride

The challenge is to carry the about of pounds weight loss up on the hills along the ride. As of right now there are 2 riders that have accepted the challenge.

My training has been non existent. I am trying to get out a walk and have been doing pretty go until last week. I had some type of meeting or program to go to every night. I should have gotten up early in the morning and walked but my bed was so much nicer.

Time to refocus and get going once again.  My firs Tri of the new year will be in April.

The Biggest Surprise

I got the biggest surprise today in the mail.

wpid-20150527_160220.jpg

I have four new Fairy Godmother’s that are cheering and looking out for me. When I opened the package, I started to cry. I am not much of a crier…. wait a minute….. yes, I am. I could not believe that these four women thought that I was special enough to send one of their own finisher’s medals to me for encouragement to reach for my dream.

I have now set my goal for my first Dream…. Ironman Florida 70.3 Haines City in 2016. This will give me about 9 months to train after I have surgery.

Speaking of surgery…

I see the surgeon on Monday, June 1st for my final visit before getting approval from the insurance company.
If everything goes according to plan, we should hear back in 7 to 10 days. Then surgery will be scheduled. Looking at the end of June/July.

Update on the office/training room

The walls and trim are all painted.

And the sayings are on the wall, waiting to be completed

wpid-20150527_173736.jpg

While doing all of this, I took a trip to the foot doctor and I came home with this……

Looks like I will be getting custom inserts.

Tip of the day…. don’t hit the backspace button too many times.
