It has been a crazy month

I have been non-stop since my last post.  It feels like it has been over a month since I wrote, but in truth it has only been a few weeks.

I celebrated my 48th birthday on the 3rd, then had to write my final paper for my Nursing Research class that was due on the 13th (got it done before then and turned in), now trying to get things ready for Christmas.

Joshua and I are heading down to Florida to spend Christmas with my Dad and brother. This will be the first time back to Florida since we moved to Illinois in 2014. I have worked by butt off getting my PTO time saved up to be able to take 6 days off.

Now on to training and eating.   I HAVE BEEN BAD!!!!!!

My training has taken a huge back seat to life and so has my eating.  My weight had gotten back up to 165 and I just felt like crap. First of all, I have been so upset with myself that I allow myself to slip back into old unhealthy eating habits when I get stressed. Will have to work on finding better ways when school starts back up in January.

I have gone back to just drinking my protein drinks and water. I have slipped up twice and had my mortal enemy of peanut M&Ms. I just have to refocus and remember why I did this in the first place.

I have been trying to find a support group that isn’t over an hour away.  I will keep looking.

Back to the training…. Joshua has swimming lessons every Thursday night and there just happens to be a Masters Swim Class at the same time. So, we both get to swim on Thursday nights. Plus he does so much better when I am not watching. I am so proud of him and how far he has come in his swimming.

Now on to bigger news…….

They have opened up applications for their “Equally Inspiring Athlete” for women to be coached for three months for free. They continue to want to increase the number of women in the sport. I was very lucky in 2015 that I applied and was accepted. Sadly it didn’t last long as I got injured and couldn’t continue. This was right before my weight loss surgery.  So, I was encouraged to apply again and I did.

Not liking myself here lately

This has been an ongoing issue with me and had really come to a head in the past month. I have to get a handle on it sooner than later. Everything has been suffering because of it.

I CAN’T STOP EATING!!!!

I have been eating everything and anything that comes in my way. My weight is slowly going up and my exercise is slowly going down. I just don’t have the energy to get out, but once I make my self get out there and move, I do feel so much better.

I have fallen back into old habits of eating to calm my nerves, to deal with the stress that I have put myself under. I know that I am doing this and I just can’t make myself stop.

There are times when I wish I would have had the gastric bypass instead of the sleeve. Then if I over ate or had something that I should not have (candy) I would have a dump issue or get sick. Right now I can eat anything with the sleeve and not get sick.  I know that this sounds bad, but I really need that safe guard to make sure that I don’t do something stupid. Like I have been doing the past few months.

I am up to my no go zone in weight and because of that stress, I continue to eat and gain more weight.

School has been stressful and working with my son has too. He just turn 12 and his hormones are all over the place on top of his Autism. It has not been much fun at our house.

I need a week off from everything and everyone, except for one special person. I want to go away and detox from the candy and sweets. Be somewhere where I can’t run to the store to get a bag of peanut M&Ms when I am stressed. (Which I did this afternoon).

I should not be allowed to go shopping unsupervised.

If I don’t get it nipped in the butt, I will regain and lose all of the hard work that I have done in the past 2.5 years.

I ran a 10K today!

I am working towards finishing my degree in nursing at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. This week is homecoming and today they had a 5K/10K race. It was FREE for students, so I signed up.

Me with Cougar, sporting my Metro Tri Club shirt and #owenotter hat.  #owenotter helped his Aunt Jen make it through the race today and every race that she had done this year. To find out more about Owen please go the the Blog of Kelly Burns Gallagher Someradnomthursday

It was a small race and of course I checked to see how many were racing in my age group 45-49, a total of 4 women. I knew right then and there that I would not be making the podium, but that was OK as I was running for me and to get better. There was a little bit of me hoping that I could get in the top 2, as they only gave awards out for the top 2 in your age group, but I digress.

It was really windy today and you were either running into the wind or it was pushing you. For me I was mostly running into the wind, what wonderful luck I have right? Things started out great, I was doing a great pace and feeling OK. My lateral quads were not liking me and no matter how much I stretched or was stretched they still did not like to be bothered about running this morning. I just told them to do their job and keep moving. I run on a 5:1 interval, run 5 minutes and walk 1 minute. It seems to work well for me. It is a good thing that my Garmin 910 can keep time and has a run/walk setting. I was going great and keeping a good pace in the mid 12’s. Which is really great for me!!

At about the 2 mile mark or so, I met up with Bob. I met Bob at our local running store, Run Well when I started the “Recliner to 5K” program that the owner Jenifer Schaller put on. I was running further and faster, but Jen helped me so much in getting my stride and breathing under control that I did not finish the class. Bob came to the class as a helper and we would run together at times during the class.

Bob and I ran most of the race together and walked at the same time. Until about the 7K mark. His shins started to brother him and he told me not to wait on him. I kept going, the it was the UP HILL climb back to the finish.

This was at the end of the UP HILL at 8K. My first action shot. Just as good as getting one running with both feet in the air.

All smiles and just about done and heading to the finish line.

All in all, I had a great race. I finished in 1: 18:13.3. I am very proud of my race today.

This race came 2 weeks after my first half marathon which I finished in 3:09:00

Now it is time to start thinking about next year and the races that I want to do. I have a few in mind, but really need to step up my swimming and biking to get to where I need to be.  Also, need to start looking for a wet suit that I can use next season. Going to need it for the race in May and one in September that may be my first half iron distance race.

When you got to go

I went for a run today after work. Needed to get out and feel productive in my training. It was a slow run but I was able to get in 5.5 miles today. Found a new route to me that has some good uphill climbs.

Due to having weight loss surgery, I have to drink a lot of water. Today I have drank 7 bottles of 16.9 oz each.

Well at about mile 3 I needed to go and I didn’t think I could make it back home due to not really knowing where I was at on the trail. So, here I am trying to find a nice little spot and next thing I know one appears. A nice little park bench to the side of the trail that was covered. Camping skills paid off and I was back off running my merry little way.

I love it when a plan comes together!!

Now if I could just get my eating under control. I keep losing and gaining the same 5 lbs.  I guess it is better than gaining 10, 20 or more.

I have not forgotten about you!

Oh my goodness! It has been over a year since I last wrote on this blog site. Time has gotten away from me and so much has happened in the past year.

I am now 2 years since my weight loss surgery and I have kept the weigh off. I am now between 155 to 160. I try to keep my weight around 155 or less. I have my good days and bad days on my eating.

My goal is to start writing again and this time really talk about my next goal in training and in life. I have gone back to school to finish up my RN to BSN program, with my goal in getting my MSN in Nursing Education. My goal for triathlon is to up my distance to the Olympic and then the half. With then end goal being a full iron distance by my 50th birthday.

I just got a new to me Tri bike that I am getting used to riding. It has been a challenge, but I have only been on it twice since I got it. I have ran my first half marathon in 3 hours and 9 minutes. Not be when my first 5K was over an hour to walk.  I will get there and will not quit until I do.

It’s been awhile

It has been 3 months since the last time I have posted. So many things have happened both good and bad.

My weight loss journey has been going great. I am down a total of 126lbs since surgery on July 13, 2015.

20160221_185829.jpg

I am now in a size 16 in jeans and some larges in workout gear.

Training has taken a back seat to injuries, but I am getting stronger and working my way back. I have already signed up for 3 races with the first one in April. It is the first and only race that I did last year before surgery.

April 17, 2016  Try Tri Edwardsville, IL  Super Sprint

May 22, 2016  St. Louis Triathlon  Creve Coeur Park in Maryland Heights    Athena Sprint

June 12, 2016  Athena National Championships  Grand Rapids, MI   Athena Sprint.

August 2016  Wood River Triathlon   (this one is still a maybe).

Time to get busy and reach my goals!!! Only 25 lbs from my weight loss goal and my racing goals are starting to take shape.

It has been awhile

It has been awhile since I updated everyone on my progress.

As of last week I am down a total of 83 LBS. I try  weigh myself every Thursday, which is tomorrow.

12184980_10206621926099581_6691825653242607972_o   Look at what a year makes!  The photo on the left was taken last October when I was making my son’s birthday cake. The one on the right was taken about a week ago.

11015862_10206608725609577_7025146808327427411_o I finally got my hair colored after a year and I took my glasses off for the picture.

I got some exciting news today. TriEqual will be announcing the 50 women who will get to experience free coaching for three months on November 25, 2015.  I sent in an application and now I am keeping my fingers crossed. They had nearly 500 applications to read and pair down to only 50.

I ordered my new suit from Swim Outlet and it should be here in the next week. I ordered a size 20, hope it fits I am ready to get back into the pool.  Going to work very hard on my swimming in the next few months. Will be getting a membership at the Rec Center here in town for the next 6 months. Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas to me!

My goal is to be able to swim 50 yards without stopping. I have always needed to stop and rest after each 25.

I am looking at my first race to be in April. The Try Tri Illinois at SIUE. I will be doing the super sprint: 150 yard swim, 10mile bike and 2 mile run.

I know from last year, I need to work on climbing hills and learning how to change gears on my bike. I will be using Mabel once again this year, as I am saving my money for an entry level TRI Bike.
